Pisa:
Piazza dei Miracoli, where art meets music
Over the last few years, the Opera della Primaziale Pisana has
made a definite shift in its institutional tasks, by aiming not
just at purely conserving the monumental group of Piazza del
Duomo but also at promoting it.
The music festivals organised by the Opera della Primaziale
Pisana, the Sacred Music Festival "Anima Mundi" and the "Music
under the Tower", can be by now considered traditional events
not only for the local citizens but also for the international
public, visiting Pisa and its amazing Cathedral Square.
Pisa and the International Sacred Music Festival "Anima Mundi"
Now in its sixth year, each one characterised by growing public
and critical consensus, the "Anima Mundi" international festival
confirms its ambition to be one of the most important events in
the sacred music scene thanks to its outstanding programme and
star-studded list of performers, hosted, during the past years,
in the awe-inspiring Cathedral dedicated to Santa Maria Assunta.
Starting from this edition the Opera della Primaziale and the
Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Pisa, with the patronage of the
City and Provincial Councils of Pisa, have entrusted the
artistic direction of the Anima Mundi Pisa Festival to the KML
Foundation and Sir John Eliot Gardiner for the coming three
seasons (2006-2008). An occasion, for the new Artistic Director,
to relive the emotions of his first tour in Italy: the
Baptistery, the Cathedral, the Monumental Cemetery, a symbolic
triptych that sums up the human being's path, from the birth to
the death.
New and unusual places will be open to the public audience: the
Monumental Cematery, for the "Momenti Spirituali" review (from
September 22nd to September 28th), will host Katia and Marielle
Labèque, Viktoria Mullova, Guido Corti and some other
performers, associated in the KML Foundation.
"Music under the Tower": great
interpreters for a small summer festival
Now in its fifth year, once again the already traditional music
event "Music under the Tower" will enlivened our summer evenings
in the charming setting of the cloister of the Vestry Board
Museum.
The event, which is increasingly targeted to the music
connoisseurs, has been a success in the past years, both in
terms of artistic standards and public appreciation, thanks to
the organisers' decision to offer a wide range of proposals.
Between June and July, for six nights, the cloister of the
Cathedral Vestry Board Museum becomes a privileged observation
post from where you can admire the beauty of the Leaning Tower.
